Mary Alice Brooks

March 11, 1927 ~ August 9, 2017 (age 90)

The Piano Brothers

Mary Alice Brooks, 90, of Montverde, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 9th, 2017.

Born March 11, 1927, in Point Marion, PA to Mary Moore and Adamo Gasbarre, she was one of eight children. Her siblings, Sally, Sam, Joe, Teresa, Betty, Esther, and Bernard all preceeded her in death.

After graduating from Point Marion High School in 1945, Mary wed the man who would become her life-long love, Arthur “Art” Brooks in June of that same year. In 1948, Mary reached a new cornerstone in her life and gave birth to her first and only child, and the light of her life, Ronald “Ronnie” Brooks.

Throughout her life, Mary was known for her independent and ambitious spirit and her knack for entrepreneurship. Mary and Art would live in many different locations, from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Hilton Head Island, SC, to Florida. Wherever they were, she was sure to open a new business, sometimes juggling multiple ventures simultaneously - from a bed & breakfast to cafés to even a liquor store (having never been in a liquor store previous to owning one). She was a natural business woman, and was always thinking of new ideas for her next great business venture.

Mary and Arthur eventually settled down in Florida, where she spent many years working at Disney. Working as a customer liaison, she was a valued member of the Disney family and received multiple awards before retiring.

However, the most important role of Mary’s life would become that of full-time caregiver to her three adoring grandchildren. At the onset of what should have been her “golden years”, Mary lovingly, and with the same strength and savvy that she harnessed to successfully run her many businesses, selflessly devoted herself to their needs. Especially to those of her youngest grandchild, to whom she raised from the time he was three. Her legacy will live on with them, as she was the cornerstone of the Brooks family and the glue that kept them together. She will be remembered for her tenacity, devotion to family unity, outspoken love of politics and an exceptional “Take no guff” attitude.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son, seven siblings, and husband. She leaves behind three very grateful and admiring grandchildren: Justin Alan Brooks (Andrea Voss) of Montverde, FL, Heather Christine Zanotti and Megan Melissa Durkin, both of Morgantown, WV; two great-grand-children: Owen Ross Durkin and Sydney Rose Zanotti, also of Morgantown, WV; and one very loving and loyal dog named Trigger, whom she adored with all her heart.
